Samsung Fridge Error Codes 5E, 21E, 22E and OF OF Explained
Samsung refrigerators run a self-diagnosis and display a code when something goes wrong. Knowing what the code means helps you decide whether to reset the fridge or book a repair, and it lets the technician bring the right part the first time.

OF OF or O FF: Showroom Mode
This is not a fault. The fridge is in showroom mode: lights and display work, but the compressor is off, so nothing cools. It often happens after two buttons are pressed together by accident, for example while cleaning the panel. Exit it with the button combination in your manual (usually two specific buttons held for a few seconds).
5E: Defrost Sensor Error
5E points to the defrost sensor circuit. It often appears together with ice on the evaporator and weak cooling. The sensor, and often the defrost heater, needs testing and replacing.
21E and 22E: Fan Errors
21E means the freezer fan is not running at the expected speed; 22E is the same for the fridge-side fan on Twin Cooling models. In most cases ice has built up around the blade. If you hear buzzing or scraping from the back, ice is almost certainly the cause. A warm fridge with a working freezer plus 22E is one of the most common Samsung repairs we do. 33E: Ice Pipe Heater Error
On models with an ice maker, a small heater keeps the ice chute clear. 33E means that heater circuit has failed and ice can block the chute.
Should You Reset the Fridge?
Follow these steps once. If the code comes back, a part has failed.
- Switch the fridge off at the wall for five minutes, then switch it back on.
- If the code returns and the fridge is warm, empty it and leave it unplugged with the doors open for 24 hours to melt hidden ice.
- Switch it back on and watch for the code over the next few days.
- If a fan or defrost code returns, book a repair. The defrost system needs fixing.
