Water Under the Drawers in a Bosch Fridge: Causes and Fix
You pull out the vegetable drawer of your Bosch fridge and find a pool of water underneath. It is annoying, it can smell, and it tends to come back. The good news is that the cause is usually simple.
Where the Water Should Go
Moisture in the fridge condenses on the cold back wall, runs down into a small channel and drains through a hole into a tray above the compressor, where the heat evaporates it. If that path blocks, the water has nowhere to go and overflows under the drawers.
Cause 1: Blocked Drain Hole
Food particles, a piece of lettuce or sticky residue can block the small drain hole at the back of the fridge.
- Take out the vegetable drawers and dry the water with a towel.
- Find the drain hole in the channel at the bottom of the back wall.
- Clear it gently with the cleaning tool supplied with many Bosch fridges, or a soft pipe cleaner. Never use a sharp object: the cooling pipes run behind the wall.
- Pour a little warm water into the channel to confirm it drains.
Cause 2: Frozen Drain Channel
If the drain channel freezes, typically because the fridge is set too cold or food is pressed against the back wall, the ice blocks the water. Set the fridge to around 4°C and keep items a few centimetres away from the back wall.
Cause 3: Door Not Sealing
A worn seal or a misaligned integrated door lets warm, humid Dubai air in. That creates far more condensation than the drain can cope with. Close the door on a sheet of paper at several points; if the paper slides out easily, the seal needs attention.
